Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to examine and treat conditions in the interior or lining of a woman’s uterus. A hysteroscopy is performed by inserting an endoscope through the vagina and into the cervical opening. This allows your doctor to view the inside of your uterus to diagnose a variety of conditions. An operative hysteroscopy can also be used to treat abnormalities of the uterus or cervix. Your PGOMG doctor may recommend a hysteroscopy if you have any of the following uterine conditions:

• Heavy menstrual bleeding
• Fibroids
• Uterine polyps
• Adhesions (scar tissue)
• Septums (malformation of the uterus since birth)

There are many benefits to the hysteroscopy procedure, including shorter recovery time, less pain and medication and potentially avoiding the need for open surgery.
