Laser Hair Removal

A better solution for hair removal in the San Francisco Bay Area

Most of the hair on our bodies is pale and fine, but occasionally darker, more coarse hair can appear where we’d prefer it not For women, problem areas for unwanted hair typically include the face, neck, abdomen, breasts, legs or underarms; for men it is generally the shoulders, chest and back.. If this is your experience, it may be time to consider hair removal at PGOMG with the LightSheer diode laser.

Understanding Hair Removal

The usual remedies for unwanted hair include shaving, waxing, plucking, and chemical depilatories. These solutions can be effective for a short period of time, couple of days, maybe a week at best: however they are not long-term solutions. Even worse, they usually require a lot of time and energy week after week, and can be very messy and sometimes painful.

pgomg_laserFor long-term hair removal, many consider using electrolysis – but it is a tedious and time consuming procedure that only removes hair in very small areas (an electric current passes through a needle to destroy each individual hair root). This procedure can also cause discomfort and pain, and it can take up to several months for entire areas of hair to be removed. As a result, patients will need to make many appointments in order to fully remove hair from even small areas of the body, like an upper lip or eyebrows.

With so many poor alternatives for hair removal, laser hair removal clearly stands out as the best and most effective solution for removing unwanted hair. The LightSheer diode laser is a state-of-the-art system specially designed to remove unwanted hair faster, with less discomfort and more reliably than other methods.

About LightSheer Laser Treatment

  •  A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light.
  •  The light emitted by the LightSheer diode laser is well absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles.

During the procedure, the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, long enough to heat up the hair and significantly impede the follicles’ ability to re-grow. This process treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously. Therefore, LightSheer is appropriate for treating even the largest areas of the body both quickly and effectively. It is important to cool the skin after this type of procedure and your PGOMG specialist will use a special contact-cooling hand piece which allows the specialist to treat the skin which is now sensitive.

What to Expect

Depending on the size of the area of skin with unwanted hair, the laser hair removal procedure can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more. It is also possible that more than one treatment may be needed since different strands of hair are at different stages of growth at any given time. The laser is most effective against hair in the active growth stage (referred to as Ange). If hair is not in this stage when treated, then it may not be as affected by the laser.

Generally, most patients do not experience much discomfort during the procedure, but for areas of skin that are more sensitive, a topical anesthetic is available.

How the treated area appears after the procedure varies from patient to patient. Side effects, if any, are minor. Some may experience redness or swelling around the hair follicle area. These side effects are actually desired in that they indicate that the follicle has responded to treatment. Most people are able to return to normal activity immediately after the procedure.

A PGOMG specialist will be happy to further detail the procedure and possible side effects with you in person. If you are interested in the LightSheer Laser Treatment, please contact PGOMG and make an appointment.
