Fibroid tumors, are benign, but can still cause bleeding, pain or pressure. Your doctor may suggest a myomectomy to remove fibroids from the uterus. There are a number of ways in which a myomectomy can be performed, and all of them keep the uterus healthy and a women’s fertility intact.
Hysteroscopic myomectomy: placing a small camera through the cervix used to remove a fibroid from within the cavity of the uterus. There are no incisions and this can be done under a light anesthetic.
Laparoscopic myomectomy: small incisions are made on the abdomen which allows the surgeon to put instruments into the abdominal cavity to remove the fibroids and repair the uterus. This is same day surgery done under a general anesthetic. This can also be done through an open abdominal incision.
